Nokia Delays Release Of Internet Tablet

Nokia said Wednesday that it is delaying the release of its much-discussed 770 Internet Tablet.

A spokesperson for Nokia told the Reuters news service that it took longer to fine-tune the underlying Linux platform than the company expected. Instead of releasing the device in the third quarter, the device will be released in the fourth quarter, the spokesperson told Reuters.

"The finalization of the software platform took a few weeks longer than we originally planned, so that's why it didn't start in Q3," the Nokia spokesperson told Reuters.

The $350 device (review here) has attracted a lot of attention because it is based on Linux and has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support and also because it is focused on the Internet, enabling Web browsing and e-mail.
