SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Blue CoatR Systems (Nasdaq: BCSI - News), the leader in secure content and application delivery, today announced its complete enterprise approach towards delivering live streaming video and video-on-demand content across the Wide Area Network (WAN). Blue Coat has developed a software interface and a partner initiative to integrate its WAN optimization technologies with video produced using solutions from enterprise video vendors. Blue Coat SG appliances manage video delivery by accelerating business-designated video, mitigating or limiting the impact of non-business video, and prohibiting unacceptable video use according to an organization's policies. Blue Coat's video delivery capabilities are one aspect of its WAN optimization solution and help to achieve its vision of WAN Application Delivery.

"More than three-quarters of companies consider their organization a virtual workplace. With such a distributed workforce, enterprise video is becoming crucial to improving employee productivity, responding to competitive pressure, and providing real-time training in quickly changing environments," says Robin Gareiss, executive vice president of Nemertes Research. "But without scalable, high-quality performance over the WAN, video adoption in the enterprise will fail. That requires minimizing the effect of video on the network and on policy-based control of which video streams receive WAN bandwidth and when."
