NEW YORK -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC) today outlined its vision for protecting customers from the next generation of threats targeting their information and interactions. The concept Symantec calls Security 2.0 brings together an ecosystem of products, services, and partnerships to help customers remain confident in today’s connected world.

“Confidence is the essential component in today’s digital world,” said John W. Thompson, Symantec chairman and chief executive officer. “Consumers and enterprises alike need to feel confident that their information is safe and their interactions are secure. Otherwise, the digital lifestyle will not be as exciting or dynamic, and we will not realize the full potential that new technologies bring to the connected world.”

NEW YORK -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced Norton Confidential Online Edition, a unique online transaction security solution that allows financial institutions to help their customers bank online with confidence. The solution is based in part on the technology in Symantec's recently announced Norton Confidential product and is being delivered via new bank-to-consumer and retailer-to-consumer distribution channels.

Norton Confidential Online Edition helps banks and other organizations strengthen the security that links them to their customers and increases customer confidence in online transactions. For the first time, financial institutions and e-commerce sites will be able to extend protection from phishing, pharming, and crimeware to their customers' computers. Norton Confidential Online Edition authenticates the bank's Web site at every log-in so customers know they're on a legitimate site; it also alerts customers if they've arrived at a phishing site. Transaction security protects customers when they enter passwords, make purchases, or bank online. Norton Confidential Online Edition will block keylogging, screencapture, and password-stealing programs, also known as crimeware, and protects users from phishing attacks.

In July of this year, TD Canada Trust launched an earlier version of Norton Confidential Online Edition called Norton Confidence Online, which has resulted in more than 100,000 downloads of the tool since its launch.

NEW YORK -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced Symantec Database Security, a new solution that reduces risks to information stored in major enterprise database management systems. Targeted at businesses, governments and academia, it provides real-time fraud and data leakage detection and auditing capabilities to address growing compliance requirements for secure information access.

"When talking with Burton Group clients about various aspects of database security, it's clear that monitoring is top of mind. As databases receive increased scrutiny due to heightened information disclosure risk, organizations need to be alerted when abnormal activity occurs so that they can take action. At the very least, improved database audit provides the necessary signposts to understand where database weaknesses lie," said Trent Henry, senior analyst, Burton Group.
