Ah the rights of spring. Every year on this special day, the web just bubbles over with slighly suspect press releases, oddly crafted RFCs and exceptionally dodgy site logos. And we just love it. So far today, the "Best Goof Award" goes to seyg.com for licensing all rights to the sun.

BTW, someone pointed out that this press release made its way around the next last year at approximately the same time. Coincidence? GREENWOOD, VA, APRIL 1, 2003-Leading marketing, PR and design firm SEYGConsulting today announced that it has retained the naming and marketingrights for the sun. Now called "SEYG.com" (Pronounced "Sage-dot-com"), thesource of all life on Earth and (depending on your beliefs) in our solarsystem is now named after the marketing firm's web domain--www.seyg.com. The announcement was made following the completion and filing of allappropriate paper work with the US Copyright Office last February as well aspayment of the $30 registration fee. The idea came when John Dinsmore-thefirm's founder-visited the website of the International Star Registry. Uponsome investigation, it turned out that no one had bothered to register themost obvious and popular star-the sun. Commenting on today's announcement was SEYG Consulting Founder JohnDinsmore, who said, "At SEYG Consulting, our specialty is providinghigh-impact marketing for our clients. Our purchase of the naming rights tothe source of all life on this planet is proof of our marketing acumen. Themessage is clear: 'Without SEYG.com, the Earth becomes a cold, desolateplace bringing swift and certain death to all creatures.' That's powerful!"

Dinsmore explained that the firm plans to strictly enforce the naming rightsfor the star, saying, "Let this be a warning to weather forecasterseverywhere-especially Al Roker and Williard Scott. We will be watching! Ifwe hear the term 'Partly sunny' instead of 'Partly SEYG.com-y,' you willfind yourself in profoundly painful and expensive civil litigation beforeyou can say 'Happy Birthday to Margaret Applebee of Tempe, Arizona who is104 today.' We paid the $30 and we plan to protect our investment."

SEYG Consulting also added that while it retains the naming and marketingrights for the star, it accepts no legal liability for complications arisingfrom solar flares, SEYG.com burns or global warming.
