Cybertrust brings a range of services that can augment Verizon Business' existing managed security portfolio, which was focused on device-oriented management. Cybertrust brings a global security service that matches its global managed network and telecom services. Most importantly, Cybertrust's Identity Management solution, including a Public root CA, managed PKI services, Identrus membership and other access-management products and services, fast-tracks Verizon into government and financial sectors. None of the Tier 1 telecom companies currently have a security portfolio to match the Verizon acquisition of Cybertrust in the United States and positions Verizon Business against BT in Europe. Verizon Business said today it is acquiring security services vendor Cybertrust to add to its capabilities in delivering managed security services.

Terms of the deal, expected to close in 60 to 90 days, were not disclosed. As a unit of Verizon Communications, Verizon Business is focused on delivering service-based security products, dubbed "cloud-to-core" to depict the company's focus on security from the network cloud into an enterprise's core network.

Cybertrust will add to those capabilities. The vendor, with 800 employees worldwide, focuses on identity management, managed security services, vulnerability/threat management, security certification programs and a range of professional services that include enterprisewide quantified risk analysis, individual application assessments and forensics and incident response services, Cybertrust said.

The two vendors emphasized the importance of Cybertrust's Identity Management suite, as well as its security operation centers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Verizon Business also will acquire ICSA Labs, an independent security product certification division of Cybertrust.
