Skype VoIP Service Expands To Linux, OS X
Company reports 130,000 users are signing up for Skype on a daily basis.

Skype Technologies announced Tuesday that its version 1.0 Skype for Linux and 1.0 for Apple's MAC OS X are available for downloading from the Internet. Previously, the releases had been in Beta test status.
With the new software, Skype said that VoIP service is now available for "cross platform" use, as Windows was already supported.
The company reported that it has 23.9 million registered users and that more than 130,000 users are signing up for Skype on a daily basis. In addition, it said that it has 735,000 users who have signed up for its paid SkypeOut service.
Skype-to-Skype callers use the service free of charge while SkypeOut users are charged about 2 cents a minute for the service. SkypeOut calls can be made to public switched telephone networks around the world.
