Petris Technology Inc. on Wednesday said it planned to use BEA Systems Inc.'s WebLogic Platform in developing an intranet portal for the energy industry.

Houston-based Petris said the portal would be designed as an optional add-on to the company's PetrisWinds Enterprise platform, which is used by energy companies as a single point of access for data and collaboration tools.

The BEA WebLogic Platform includes the San Jose, Calif., company's popular Java-based application server.

With the use of the WebLogic Platform, PetrisWinds Enterprise will enable companies to have multiple portals across an enterprise act as one. Weblogic can also provide the ability to help integrate Web software to further reduce the number of applications users must access separately to do their work.

The Weblogic Platform and the PetrisWINDS Enterprise system support single sign-on, so users can access multiple applications with one user name and password.
