MCI Inc. said Tuesday that it will add high-speed cable access to its portfolio of Internet-access offerings.

With the cable offering, MCI said it can now reach 90 percent of U.S. business locations. Its Web-access offerings include DSL, Wi-Fi, dial-up, and satellite.

"MCI is making available asymmetric cable service from Charter, Cox Communications, and Time Warner Cable," the firm stated. "MCI's solution gives customers speeds of 768 Kbps and greater for information received, and speeds of 256 Kbps and higher for information sent."

MCI said its strategic relationship with New Edge Networks, a provider of multi-site broadband networks, enables it to offer broadband services to MCI customers nationwide. MCI said its IP VPN Broadband service encrypts traffic between remote locations and headquarters--a solution it is targeting at retail store and small-office applications.
