IBM Snaps Up Micromuse

Today IBM disclosed that it has signed a deal to buy event correlation vendor Micromuse. With its acquisition of Micromuse, IBM picks up Micromuse’s lauded Netcool event collection, event consolidation, and correlation suite – and the solutions 1800 customers. IBM says the acquisition will marry two growth areas – IBM’s Tivoli systems management unit which the company says showed double-digit growth for the first three quarters of this year and Micromuse which has experienced 10 percent growth in 2005 over the previous year.

IBM says the Micromuse purchase will help bolster its systems management solution. Micromuse is known for its event correlation technology, which helps companies simplify systems management and automate their operations. Beyond operational efficiency gains, Micromuse big claims to fame are the ability of its Netcool suite to help enterprises improve business continuity and lower cost of ownership.

The San Francisco-based Micromuse employs 650. Micromuse counts some of the world’s largest enterprises as customers including America Online, British Telecom, Cox Communications, Deutsche Telecom, eTrade, and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
