Dell has launched PowerEdge SC420 entry level server for small businesses and home office workers. It is claimed to make setting up, running and troubleshooting a server easy for the first time users with the customers being able to utilize cost benefits of client/server networks for shared apps, like file and print server, e-mail messaging and shared Internet access.

The server features an Intel 2.8GHz, 3.4GHz or 3.6GHz Pentium 4 or 2.53 GHz Celeron processors , two PCI Express slots, three PCI slots, up to 4 GB of RAM, two SATA or SCSI hard drives, embedded Gigabit Ethernet and an optional Travan TR-40 Tape Backup Unit . The PowerEdge SC420 is available immediately with prices starting from Rs 38,568.

The OS has to be purchased separately with Microsoft Windows Server 2003, or Small Business Server 2003 or Red Hat Linux ES3.0 available as options directly from Dell.

Dell also supports the new server with a wide variety of service and limited warranty options tailored for small businesses.
