Coyote Point Unveils New Gigabit Application Switch

Infrastructure vendor Coyote Point Systems introduced a new Layer 4 through Layer 7 server load balancing switch this week that the company boasts delivers 100 percent faster performance than its predecessor.

The Equalizer E550si, which marries server load balancing to application traffic management, provides port-dense server load balancing for Web applications in virtual cluster environments. The 21-port Equalizer E550si supports 512 servers per virtual cluster and an unlimited number of clusters. Coyote Point says the system can handle up to 100,000 connections per second. The switch, which can be administered from an SNMP management console, can generate SNMP traps to alert IT managers to events that could diminish application performance or interrupt operations.

Coyote Point says the application traffic management system includes dynamic ports for mission-critical corporate applications such as CRM software. The Equalizer E550si also includes full NAT (network address translation) functionality, which facilitates a full-proxy option. The vendor says this will simplify installation and improve security. The E550si, which meets the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances regulations, also supports internationalized Web sites that use extended character sets.

The switch, priced from $10,995, is available now.
