Cisco Revamps Technology Organization

New team formed under chief development officer Mario Mazzola.

Cisco has reorganized its technology organization under Mario Mazzola, the company's senior vice president and chief development officer. As part of the announcement, Charles H. Giancarlo, 46, who joined Cisco via the Kalpana acquisition in 1994, has taken the position of chief technology officer (CTO). Other personnel changes in the technology organization:

* Jayshree Ullal, senior vice president and 11-year Cisco veteran, will lead the Security Technology Group, reporting to Mazzola.

* Luca Cafiero, senior vice president and 11-year Cisco veteran, will head up the Data Center, Storage, Switching, and Wireless Technology Group, reporting to Mazzola.

* Tony Bates, vice president and general manager, will now have sole responsibility for the Carrier Core Multiservice Business Unit, reporting to Prem Jain and Mike Volpi, both senior vice presidents of the Routing Technology Group.

* Kathy Hill, vice president and general manager, joined Cisco in 1997 and will now report to Mazzola, overseeing the Mid-range and Stackable Switching Technology Group.* Kambiz Hooshmand, vice president and general manager, joined Cisco in 1996 and will now report to Mazzola, assuming new responsibilities leading the Optical and Broadband Transport Technology Group.
