Bell South Intros Super High-Speed DSL

Bell South's 2.3 million digital subscriber line (DSL) customers will be able to surf the Internet at even higher speeds when the carrier launches its BellSouth FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 service.

Announced yesterday, the FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 service will provide users with 6 MB connections to support demanding next-generation network applications. Business users will be able to benefit from the same kind of big data pipe for shared access and other applications with FastAccess Business DSL 6.0.

"The introduction of a broadband service with downstream speeds up to 6Mbps will enhance BellSouth's robust portfolio of broadband options," BellSouth vice president of data product management Michael Bowling said in a statemrnt. "We are committed to providing customers with the greatest choice and value as they make their broadband decisions. And with this new service, we now offer the widest range of broadband options in the market."

FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 adds a fourth choice for consumer from Bell South's tiered menu of DSL services. These services now include the 256 kbps FastAccess DSL Lite, FastAccess DSL Ultra with 1.5 Mbps of bandwidth, and the 3 Mbps FastAccess DSL Xtreme. The new service will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
