Alcatel will launch a WiMax trial in Tokyo in June of this year for ACCA Networks, one of Japan’s largest DSL and optical fiber access service providers with over a million subscribers.

The trial will integrate WiMax into ACCA's existing DSL services, and will include video streaming, high-speed Internet access and Voice-over-IP. It is the first step toward a full-blown, commercial WiMax offering.

The WiMax solution, Alcatel's Evolium, will operate in the 2.5 GHz frequency band and includes base station equipment, indoor CPE (Customer Premises Equipment), mobile terminals, and integration services.
