Server consolidation, boosting SLA (service level agreement) performance, and the challenge of connecting data centers to major enterprise locations are all on the agenda for the next GLOBALCOMM 2006 Master Class Series event: "Can Carrier Ethernet Impact IT ROI?"

Michael Tighe, Director of Strategy for Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), will present the lecture, which is hosted jointly by Light Reading and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) , in New York next week.

The Master Class aims to help users beset by new network and application challenges. As enterprise networks and IT architectures have evolved, there has been a shift from centralized to decentralized deployment of key IT applications, driven largely by application performance requirements. Many applications are not built to deliver optimal performance over slower WAN connections, forcing the IT organization to deploy servers closer to the user.

Carrier Ethernet, however, offers a potential solution, allowing the enterprise to connect data centers to major locations at speeds from 10 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s. This, in turn, could enable enterprises to consolidate servers in centrally administered data centers with no application performance degradation.

This approach could also enable IT organizations to reduce expenditures in areas such as server hardware, OS and application licenses, storage management, and monitoring. Additional benefits include the ability to deliver stronger SLAs -- the servers are deployed in a highly secure, highly redundant data center."Can Carrier Ethernet Impact IT ROI?" will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 11, in the Ambassador 3, at the Westin Times Square in New York City.

Further details on the event are available here.
