ONStor Launches Into GNS
ONStor launches its GNS technology in version 3.0 of its award-winning Pantera Clustered NAS Systems and Bobcat Clustered NAS Gateways

CAMPBELL, Calif. -- ONStor Inc., the leading provider of scalable clustered NAS solutions for the enterprise, today announced the launch of global namespace (GNS) technology in version 3.0 of its award-winning Pantera(TM) Clustered NAS Systems and Bobcat(TM) Clustered NAS Gateways. By combining a highly scalable clustered NAS architecture with integrated virtualization and GNS technology, ONStor is delivering a unified virtual NAS solution for enterprise-wide file services, dramatically reducing the cost of managing data growth in real time. ONStor scalable clustered NAS systems are deployed across a broad range of demanding enterprise IT applications, including large-scale Windows server consolidation, Internet content delivery, and digital imaging.
"The growth of unstructured file data now requires most enterprises to deploy advanced file management capabilities, including global namespace controls," said Brad O'Neill, senior analyst, Taneja Group. "To that end, any enterprise customer with home directory or Windows file services will enjoy dramatically simpler management and savings in operational costs by deploying ONStor scalable clustered NAS with global namespace. This will be a key component in supporting Windows-based, enterprise-wide file networking initiatives as well as seamless file data consolidation efforts."
ONStor GNS is a highly available cluster-wide namespace that virtualizes multiple physical file systems across both ONStor virtual servers and Windows file servers to present a single logical file system to end users and applications. Having a single logical file system simplifies data access and improves data and information availability by shielding end users from the complexities of adding, moving and rebalancing file data storage across the enterprise. With ONStor GNS, administrators can instantaneously move physical file system storage between virtual servers and NAS gateways in a cluster while keeping the move transparent to clients. Since file system mount points remain the same, no remounting of file systems is needed.
"The single biggest pain point in managing file services in an enterprise is the complexity of mapping file systems to clients and keeping those mappings current. ONStor GNS technology provides an important foundation to simplifying data management in a distributed file storage environment while reducing costs," emphasized John Welter, VP of Technology, Northwest Geomatics. "We are excited that this technology is now available to address the burdens faced by Windows shops as file-based data multiplies."
