Google Unveils Two Search Appliances

Google adds two beefier Minis to its line of business search appliances.

Google Inc. on Thursday added two beefier Minis to its line of business search appliances.

The Mountain View, Calif.company said Minis are now available with capacities of 200,000 documents and 300,000 documents for $5,995 and $8,995, respectively. The new versions were in addition to the current 100,000-document appliance that sells for $2,995.

Google also sells an enterprise-level appliance that can search up to 15 million documents. The device starts at $30,000 for searching up to 500,000 documents.

Google launched the Mini a year ago with its sight on small and medium-sized businesses. The appliance searches data stores behind a company's intranet, or as the search engine for a public Web site. In marketing the Mini, Google claims "plug-and-play simplicity."
