Comtrol yesterday announced it has expanded its line of products to include a 16-port version of its DeviceMaster PRO product. The DeviceMaster PRO 16-Port 10/100 Base-T device server features bus-independent serial port expansion with selectable interfaces supporting Linux and Microsoft Windows environments. It also offers a platform for hosting and running custom-developed applications.

The DeviceMaster PRO supports RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 interface standards that are software selectable on each DB9 or RJ45 port (8 DB9 to RJ45 converters are included with the 8-port model) and offers 25KV of extended surge protection on each serial port.

The DeviceMaster PRO is aimed at applications in which multiple interface formats are required to connect peripherals that are substantial distances from the server and programmability is required. Serial ports can reside outside the server anywhere on the LAN, allowing the server to be kept, for example, in a secure back-office location while ports reside where needed.
