Apani Networks yesterday released mobile virtual private network (VPN) client software for Cisco Systems' 3000 VPN gateways.

The software allows mobile devices running Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition to make secure wireless connections with the Cisco gateways. Supported devices include the Dell Axim, Hewlett-Packard iPaq and Siemens Pocket LOOX handhelds.

"As the popularity of mobile computing devices increases, it does blur the network's edge and increases the potential security risks for corporate IT," Apani Networks vice president of marketing David Lynch said in a statement. "We are pleased to provide Cisco 3000 VPN gateway support for these devices to secure their wireless connections back to corporate networks. Apani continues to set new standards for placing trust back into trusted network environments."

Apani's mobile client for the Cisco 3000 VPN Gateway is available immediately as a download from the company's website at the price of $50 per client.
