MILPITAS, Calif. -- LSI Corporation(NYSE:LSI) today announced that its read channel technology has shipped in more than 1 billion hard disk drives (HDDs), reinforcing its technology leadership position in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) components for HDDs.

The LSI read channel technology originated with AT&T, as part of pioneering work in communications at Bell Labs. Since 1992 when volume shipments of read channels began, LSI has developed successive advances in read channel technology, most recently launching the industry's first 65nm iterative decoding read channel solutions.*

"This milestone represents approximately 30 percent of all HDDs shipped since the read channel technology was adopted," said Ruediger Stroh, executive vice president and general manager, LSI Storage Peripherals Group."It is a tribute not only to our strengths in HDD SoCs, but to our strategic relationships with the top hard drive manufacturers over many years. The complexity of HDD SoC technology and innovation in read channels, in particular, reinforces that LSI is a leader in advanced storage technologies."
