GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today that they have certified the new Hitachi 1TB disks for use with the Teralyte Removable disk backup system. The successful testing and certification of the 1TB disks lets Idealstor offer all current and future customers the largest removable disk backup capacity on the market.

The Idealstor Teralyte is designed to offer the small to medium sized business a fast, affordable and reliable alternative to tape backup. Starting at $1995, the Teralyte is directly targeted to the SMB that is looking for an alterative to tape. Prior to the 1TB disks, capacities for each Teralyte removable drive bay were 200, 300, 400, 500 and 750GB, still larger than most tape formats. The 1TB disks will now enable the Teralyte to be positioned to backup even more data giving larger companies an attractive alternative to their tape backup solutions.

In addition to being available for the Teralyte product, the new 1TB disks will also be available for Idealstor entire line of removable disk backup solutions. With removable disk capacities of up to 1TB per Idealstor bay, Idealstor backup systems can now support up to 8TB (uncompressed) of removable disk backup. Each Idealstor disk ships already formatted and comes installed in Idealstors rugged disk caddy and protective carrying case. Each disk/caddy combination is designed to be transported letting backup administrators send disks offsite just like they would a tape.

Dylan O’Connor, Chief Technology Officer at Thrive Networks, an Idealstor Premier Channel partner is excited to offer this new capacity disk. “We are firm believers in removable disk backup being an affordable and reliable alternative to tape backup offerings. We were drawn to the Idealstor solution out of necessity as we had clients that were tired of using tape and we needed to find them an alternative. Now that the 1TB disks are available, the Idealstor Teralyte not only is technologically superior to tape backup, but now nobody can touch what they offer for the price points available. I can now sell my clients a 1TB Teralyte backup system and still come in less than today’s popular tape backup options. If I were to look at quoting an LTO-3 drive, the cost would be about $1000 more than the Teralyte and the largest capacity available is 400GB native. Tape just can’t compete.”

“We are very excited to announce that we have successfully tested and certified these new 1TB drives for use with the Teralyte and all of our removable disk backup systems,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager at Idealstor. “When we first went to market with our removable disk backup solutions in 2003, the largest disk available was 250GB. Many of the early adopters of our technology bought into removable disk because of the problems they had with their tape backup but also because they saw how disk capacities were about to overtake that of tape. Over the years these same clients have been able to buy larger disks as capacities have increased without having to invest in new hardware. With the new 1TB disks available, some clients have seen the capacity of their Idealstor backup solutions triple in just three years without having to do anything other than buy new backup media.”Idealstor LLC
