LAS VEGAS -- Vormetric, Inc. today announced that it has partnered with IBM to deliver database encryption capabilities for DB2 on Windows, Linux and Unix. IBM will offer Vormetric's highly acclaimed data security solution as part of its data server portfolio, addressing customer demand for increased protection of sensitive data. This new capability is delivered in IBM Database Encryption Expert, initially available for the new DB2 9.5 "Viper 2" data server.

"Customers are increasingly looking to enhance their ability to repel threats to the security and privacy of their data," said Arvind Krishna, IBM VP Database Servers and IM Development. "By partnering with Vormetric to add its patented data encryption capabilities to the DB2 data security solution, IBM is helping our clients meet this challenge. DB2 users can be confident that their valuable information is protected from data thieves and accidental disclosure while ensuring optimal database performance."

Vormetric's unique file-level approach to database encryption helps IBM Database Encryption Expert offer the highest performance available combined with a completely non-invasive implementation. Because the Vormetric solution protects databases at the file level and minimizes the impact on critical applications, it eliminates the need for users to change applications or databases and removes their performance concerns as well. IBM Database Encryption Expert provides database backup encryption, database tablespace encryption, access control, host integrity, and auditing in highly distributed environments without extensive management complexity or additional infrastructure costs.

"We are proud that IBM, a company that epitomizes the highest standards in customer quality and technical acumen, has selected Vormetric as its partner in safeguarding the vital data of its customers," said Vormetric president and CEO Richard Gorman. "This partnership not only validates our superior approach to database encryption, but it also validates the market need to encrypt sensitive information for compliance, risk management and intellectual property protection."
