SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Data Domain, the leading provider of Enterprise Protection Storage solutions, today announced that Canadian based Desjardins Financial Security has implemented Data Domain appliances for disk based data protection. In addition, the firm plans to deploy additional Data Domain products for a disaster recovery solution.

A financial services and insurance subsidiary of Desjardins Group, the largest integrated cooperative financial group in Canada, Desjardins Financial Security (DFS) is currently protecting approximately 35 terabytes of data on Data Domain appliances in its Levis data center near Quebec. The firms reasons for moving from tape backup to the Data Domain solution were initially performance driven.

“Our data was growing at forty percent annually and, increasingly, we were not able to complete our two daily incremental backup tape copies in time to meet the schedule for removal of the duplicates for offsite storage,” said Jean-René Caron, Project Manager at Desjardins Financial Security. “We really needed to shorten our backup cycles and our first Data Domain appliance solved that situation — and reduced our typical restore times from a few hours to just a few minutes. Our Data Domain installations were exceedingly simple, and it only took a few hours before we were conducting our first disk based backups. We were also pleased to find that the time and effort our team was spending on management and administration of backups has been significantly reduced.”
