If you look at the way IT shops have evolved, the management data has tended to be created around the tools, resulting in islands of data. And the processes for managing IT tend to be tool-centric and not as broad as customers would like.
We're interested in helping customers with both problems by federating the data that exists in the repositories so they have a more homogenous view of the data and a better base for building IT processes on top of the data.
How will the working group address those problems?
The focus is on the technologies and interfaces required to do the federation. That is, for the repositories that have data to be federated, to provide the means for those repositories to register the resources they are managing, and for an identifier service to reconcile data when different tools know the same resource by different names.
It sounds like there's an emphasis on reconciliation.
