CentrePath Takes $5M

Data center services startup CentrePath Inc. today announced $5 million in Series B funding to support an imminent upgrade of its core technology.

The round was led by Greylock Partners and Pilot House Ventures and follows the $4 million Series A the company received in March 2004.

Mark Smith, CentrePaths president plans to use the cash to add another dozen employees to the company's 60-strong workforce by the end of the year. Some of the the new hires, according to Smith, will be in engineering, although others will focus on working with the startup’s partners, which include Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ).

CentrePath’s core technology is Magellan, software that monitors Storage Area Networks (SANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), and Wide Area Networks (WANs). Magellan collects information from different devices on customers’ IP networks. The info is sent to the startup’s own data center in Waltham, Mass., where it is analyzed and presented to remote users. Smith claims that Magellan can help identify problems in a matter of seconds that would otherwise take hours to pinpoint.
