Apple Switches to Intel Processors; But PowerPC Boxes Safe for Now
Apple is finally giving up the PowerPC chip and moving to Intel processors, but there's still plenty of life left in the current hardware.

The installed base of PowerPC Macs is huge, so developers would be foolish not to write to both hardware platforms for the immediate future. In addition, there is a base of "translation software" available that makes it possible to run PowerPC applications on Intel Macs. So, if you're hesitating about buying Macs--even those based on the PowerPC chip--you can stop worrying now. They won't be obsolete anytime soon.
