SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), a leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that its Blue Coat ProxySG® appliance version 5 has received SAP® Certified Integration status. Testing was performed on a ProxySG appliance running version 5 of the SGOS operating system. The certification applies to multiple ways Blue Coat appliances can be deployed to protect, control and accelerate SAP applications. The same Blue Coat appliances can be used in a WAN optimization deployment to accelerate application response time in branch offices or in a “reverse proxy” setting, where they protect and accelerate external user access to internal applications. In addition, multiple ProxySG appliances can be combined for high availability and load balancing without requiring additional hardware.

The SAP Certified Integration affirms that enterprises deploying SAP services and applications using an enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) can achieve improved performance, security and reliability through using Blue Coat ProxySG appliances. The SAP Integration and Certification Center (SAP ICC) has verified the integration of ProxySG appliances with the SAP NetWeaver® platform Release 7.0 running the SAP ERP application Release 6.0, as a pre-tested environment for application acceleration, security and control.

In November 2007, Blue Coat announced that testing conducted at SAP’s Enterprise Services Community Networking Lab, demonstrated that Blue Coat ProxySG® appliances can decrease response times for remote users of SAP software applications by up to 97 times, while reducing the bandwidth consumption by up to 99 percent. Today’s announcement confirms that Blue Coat appliances have achieved SAP Certified Integration in multiple deployment scenarios that provide a combination of security, control and acceleration.

“It is critical to ensure the performance, security and reliability of SAP business applications even to the far reaches of enterprise branch offices,” said Bethany Mayer, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Blue Coat Systems. “The same Blue Coat ProxySG appliance can accelerate the delivery of SAP applications to branch offices or for remote users, while also providing the necessary security and control.”
