Apple Patches Tiger Server

Apple on Thursday updated its newest server software, like the desktop operating system dubbed Tiger, to fix several bugs.

The new version, Mac OS X 10.4.1, corrected a problem in the Software Update Server that automatically delivers and installs updates, and another in Apple File Server that could bring that the server down if used simultaneously with both SMB and CIFS network file services.

Other flaws fixed included ones that prevented backup disk images from mounting properly, another that mistakenly showed blogs as unavailable. Several updates to Apple's Open Directory allow users to add password hints to an access list, and make sure systems boot up when they're bound to Active Directory and hosting multiple services. The 38MB update can be downloaded manually from Apple's Web site, or retrieved using the server software's integrated update feature.

Earlier this week, Apple patched the desktop version of Tiger to fix 35 bugs in a variety of components and bundled applications.
