PITTSBURGH -- Penthera Technologies, Inc., a software provider for mobile broadcast TV and multimedia, today launched Penthera Broadcast Foundation™, a Virtual Mobile-Broadcast-in-a-Box™ solution for broadcasters, manufacturers and operators seeking a pre-configured, end-to-end, mobile broadcast environment for test, evaluation, and demonstration purposes. In conjunction with this announcement, Arqiva, the U.K.’s leading provider of broadcast transmission services and multi-operator networks, announced today that Arqiva and Microsoft have teamed with Penthera to conduct a field trial of multimedia mobile broadcasting in the Cambridge area. Penthera will provide Penthera Broadcast Foundation to enable end-to-end mobile broadcast service delivery.

“Mobile broadcast evaluations today are less about technology and more about working through the business case details, range of revenue-bearing services, breadth of platform support, and vendor interoperability,” said Sam Leinhardt, CEO of Penthera. “Using Penthera Broadcast Foundation, customers can test both the business and technical aspects of standards-based, multimedia mobile broadcast services, due to the solution’s broad range of services, platforms and multi-vendor support.”

A One Stop, Mobile-Broadcast-in-a-Box, Solution

Penthera Broadcast Foundation is a multi-vendor, end-to-end, mobile broadcast test and demonstration environment for use in labs, field trials, demo centers, campuses, trade shows and other pre-commercial service environments. Based on Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld (DVB-H) technology and standards, Penthera Broadcast Foundation is a pre-tested and pre-assembled solution to ensure interoperability. It is offered in a variety of configurations (e.g. hardware and software, or software only) and technology variations (e.g. Windows Media or H.264 encoding). It provides a wide range of functionality, from the first step of encoding video and audio content to finally receiving and viewing the content on mobile devices. The system is shipped to a customer and installed in their lab so that, only hours later, they are up and running with DVB-H on a variety of handsets. Penthera Broadcast Foundation also provides customers with a single point of contact for purchasing and supporting a mobile broadcast environment.
