DUBLIN -- Vordel today announced the availability of its Vordel 5 Cloud Edition to connect local applications to the cloud, easily and securely. Cloud computing platforms such as Amazon, Force.com, and Google offer significant flexibility and cost savings to businesses who seek to leverage cloud computing within their own corporate applications. The emerging consensus is for a "hybrid" model which mixes local applications with these cloud computing resources and Vordel's cloud gateway enables this hybrid model. Available as an "onramp" appliance for onsite use or as a virtualized software appliance in the cloud, Vordel can be deployed to scale and perform in line with a company's needs.

The Vordel 5 Cloud edition appeals to CIOs under pressure to leverage the cost savings of the cloud utility computing model, whilst increasing the returns on their existing application infrastructure and yet maintaining full visibility and control of their firm's cloud usage. It also appeals to those developers and architects who need a fast and efficient way to integrate cloud-based services with their local services. Available today, Vordel 5 Cloud Edition ships with ready made policies for connecting to Amazon Web Services.

In a recent report from analyst firm Gartner it was identified that "Governing the interactions between consumers and service providers will be a mandate for any company using software as a service (SaaS) or other cloud-based services and offerings." 1

Mark O'Neill, Vordel CTO commenting today on the announcement said, "The more an enterprise increases the usage of cloud-based services, the greater the need to govern the exchange of data between consumers and providers of the service. Vordel's cloud offering delivers on the need to mediate the connection between local applications and cloud-based services; control access to internal applications and monitor the usage of the cloud service.
