NEW YORK -- According to several industry sources, Byte and Switch Senior Editor Jo Maitland has left the publication. Reached for comment, Maitland patiently explained to us: "Bugger off!" before slamming down the phone. [Ed. note: My, aren't WE touchy?!]

Well. That's not precisely how it went... In any event, I'm able to report (reluctantly) that Jo Maitland, who was part of the original Byte and Switch launch team in June 2001, is moving on. She's now a senior editor at Boardwatch, a telecom services publication that our parent company, Light Reading Inc., is in the process of relaunching. The lovelorn may still reach her at: [email protected].

In addition to delivering terrific news coverage and fresh analysis with a wicked sense of humor, Jo has been a prime mover behind our exceedingly popular Top Ten Private Companies list. More than a few startups would trade their basal ganglia to land a highly coveted spot on this list. Read our most recent overhaul, posted this week, here: Top Ten Private Companies: Spring 2003.

And be sure to also read her final report for Byte and Switch, Disk Backup 101, an overview of one of the hottest trends crackling through the industry. Best of luck with the Boardwatch crew, Jo!

Now some good news: Eugnie (Nina) Larson is joining Byte and Switch as our newest staff writer.Nina, who previously covered telecom services and security for Light Reading, has a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a master's degree in intellectual history from the University of Osloka farsken? So she's not only conversant in storage networking technologies; she can also hold forth on the paradoxes of The Enlightenment. In Norwegian or French. Her email address is: larson@byteandswitch.

One thing won't change: Byte and Switch will continue to be the best source anywhere for storage networking news and analysis, with exclusive, enterprising coverage of this fast-changing market.

Thanks for reading!
