NetApp Kills Hetero Replication

The company says there's no market for heterogeneous replication solutions

11:30 AM -- One of the annoying ways that storage vendors lock you into their products is homogeneous replication. If you have a Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) AMS array in your primary data center and want to replicate the data to a DR site, HDS would be glad to sell you another AMS for your DR site and a license for software that will replicate the data between them. If you decide youd rather have a Xiotech Corp. Emprise, EMC Corp. (NYSE: EMC) Clariion, or some other array at the DR site, you'll have to find a replication solution elsewhere.
