Owned and operated by information scientists, Information International Associates (also known as IIa) provides information technology services, open-source intelligence research and analysis, library and information center management, policy development and strategic planning, and military personnel systems management to government agencies. Customers include the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Defense, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Key purchase drivers

Aaron Myers, IIa senior business systems analyst, said the company chose Teneros for two key reasons:

  1. Security: IIa works with government agencies that have strict policies regarding the origin of in-bound email, so having an Exchange server and the Teneros appliance on-site adds an extra layer of security that a hosted environment cannot offer.

  2. Elimination of corrupt data: IIa had corrupt data on its Exchange server that it simply needed to fix. The Teneros appliance has proprietary technology that prevents corrupt data from being replicated to the mail store on the Teneros appliance. Therefore, the Teneros appliance prevents corrupt data from being copied to the server after an outage.

"Email is a primary form of communication and it is also where we maintain attachments, conversations, calendars and contact information," Myers said. "So when we're disconnected from email, we're disconnected from the world and, most importantly, from our customers. We've also had problems with corrupt data, so we need a solution that not only provides continuous, secure email operations, but tackles the data corruption issue too. We looked at other options, but Teneros is clearly the best we have found, and the way it handles corrupt data is the icing on the cake. As soon as we installed the Teneros appliance, we were immediately able to clean up our database during regular business hours, and we can do our Exchange maintenance during business hours as well, all with zero downtime. It's worked out great."
