SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced the results of data recovery testing on hard disk drives (HDDs) degaussed by its Mag EraSURE(R) Professional Value (P2V) product. Conducted by DriveSavers, the worldwide leader in data recovery services, the results indicate that information on the hard disk drives was unrecoverable after having passed through the Mag EraSURE device.

Fujitsu introduced the Mag EraSURE P2V desktop degausser in May 2006 as a high-powered yet economical solution for industries requiring fast and secure removal of data from magnetically recorded media, including HDD perpendicular magnetic recording media with up to 5000Oe coercivity. The Mag EraSURE family of products utilizes a patented array of rare earth permanent magnets to securely dispose of the data. The magnets are powerful enough to destroy both servo and calibration data and, as revealed by the testing, media exposed to the degausser became permanently unrecoverable by commercial means(1).

With over twenty years of experience in the data recovery industry, DriveSavers is the global leader in salvaging data from damaged media.DriveSavers' expert technicians have successfully restored data from hard disk drives, servers, RAID, SAN, NAS devices, tape, DVD, CD, all removable media, Flash Memory and MP3 players. Recoveries are performed in a certified Class 100 cleanroom, a pristine facility that contains highly filtered air 50,000 times cleaner than normal office air, providing a safe work environment for data recovery.

Three Enterprise hard disk drives that had passed through the Mag EraSURE device were provided to DriveSavers for evaluation purposes. After an extensive examination of the media and head stack with a high-powered microscope, complete disassembly of the internal components and media surface testing, DriveSavers' cleanroom engineers concluded that there was no recoverable data on the HDDs. As a result of being exposed to the powerful magnetic fields in the Fujitsu Mag EraSURE device, the permanent low-level servo tracks and magnetically stored data on the hard disk drives was destroyed, allowing nothing to be read or written to the surface of the platters.

"Fujitsu is very excited about these test results, especially since DriveSavers is well-known for its expertise in the field of data recovery,"said Dan Dalton, director, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "One of the challenges for industries today is how to securely dispose of confidential information after it has served its useful purpose. Mag EraSURE is the answer to this problem by offering users a quick and highly secure solution to ensure their information will not fall into the wrong hands."Fujitsu Ltd.
