FBI's Successor to Virtual Case File Just as Buggy?

The FBI unveils Sentinel, a new project to replace failed its Virtual Case File, but it faces some challenges.

FUDBust: In commenting on the failed Virtual Case File project in February, FBI officials blamed technical and financial missteps, turnover among bureau IT personnel and veteran agents' resistance to using computers. The FBI still faces these challenges. Mueller understands those problems won't just melt away with a new system design. It may be a better mousetrap, but it hasn't caught anything yet.

In fact, the bureau will have to limp along with its old, antiquated systems for another two years. The FBI says the first phase of the new system, called Sentinel, won't be deployed until 2007. --Rob Preston
