Expand recruited as foundation for server based computing project at Hill McGlynn

ROSELAND, N.J. -- Expand Networks (www.expand.com ),a leading provider of application acceleration solutions over the WAN andrecently positioned in the Gartner's Leaders Quadrant for WAN OptimizationControllers 2006 today announced it has greatly enhanced application anddata performance on a global server based computing network at Hill-McGlynn,one of the UK's most experienced recruitment agencies specializing in theconstruction industry.

Operating in an MPLS environment for WAN connectivity between itsheadquarters and 14 remote locations, Hill McGlynn initiated a server basedcomputing project running Microsoft Terminal Services. Unfortunately, asthe business grew these applications started to suffer from significantperformance problems caused by latency, congestion and a lack of QoS whichneeded to be addressed. Following a recommendation from Softcat UK plc, aleading supplier of IT solutions to the UK Enterprise sector, ExpandNetworks' Compass was chosen as the unique platform to improve theperformance of Terminal Services and optimize the MPLS network.

"In order to simplify our infrastructure, we had implemented a thin clientinfrastructure across the company but with the vagaries of the WAN, we werefaced with the challenge of trying to manage the application performance ofTerminal Services," recalls Patrick Rovetto, IT Services Manager, HillMcGlynn. "There are a number of vendor solutions in the market but it wasonly the integrated technologies that make up the Expand Compass platformthat could address our particular requirements and become a critical enablerof the SBC project."
