EVA Qualifies ATTO iSCSI Initiator

AMHERST, N.Y. -- ATTO Technology Inc., a provider of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, has announced that its Xtend SAN iSCSI (Internet SCSI) initiator is available for use with HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays (EVA) in Mac environments as a connectivity solution for accessing native Fibre Channel storage, ATTO said last week.

The combination of iSCSI and Fibre Channel support enables users to extend Fibre Channel SAN (storage area network) advantages to multiple departments and remote locations, ATTO of Amherst, New York said. ATTOs Xtend SAN and the HP StorageWorks EVA allows Fibre Channel storage devices to connect to multiple servers for consolidation of large storage pools over long distances, increasing accessibility and simplifying storage management, the company said.

ATTO is a provider of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments. The company aims at offering a range of end-to-end solutions to help customers better store, manage and deliver their data. ATTO manufactures host adapters, bridges, RAID and virtual tape appliances, and management software. ATTO solutions are based on providing a high level of connectivity to all storage interfaces including SCSI (small computer small interface), SATA (Serial-ATA), iSCSI, NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol), SAS (Serial-Attached SCSI) and Fibre Channel, the company said.

Xtend SAN is a stand-alone application that allows Mac users to attach existing storage to an IP (Internet Protocol)-based network, ATTO said. With Xtend SAN, users can take existing DAS (direct-attached storage) devices and make them available to multiple servers, which helps to increase accessibility and simplify storage management, while using existing IT expertise, the company said.

ATTO’s Xtend SAN iSCSI initiator allows Mac customers to make use of iSCSI SANs, enabling low-cost Ethernet based solutions that provide businesses with performance, reliability and security technologies for their SANs, ATTO said. The qualification of Xtend SAN with the HP EVA reinforces ATTO’s role in delivering storage infrastructure solutions, the company said.
