Emulex Showcases FCOE

CANNES, France -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced it is showcasing its
LightPulse(r) Virtual HBA technology on emerging Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and 8Gb/s platforms. Emulex enables increased benefits of server virtualization and consolidation through its latest 8Gb/s and FCoE products by providing greater I/O capacity within the server.

Emulex Virtual HBA Technology, which is available in its next-generation 8Gb/s Fibre Channel and FCoE environments, demonstrates how virtual machine migration using VMotion within a VMware ESX environment can take advantage of next generation network speeds and protocols. The demonstrations illustrate how today's production capabilities, such as qualified drivers, virtual HBA and VSAN support, work seamlessly with the new 8Gb/s Fibre Channel and FCoE technologies provided by Emulex. This week's demonstrations also illustrate the advantages of using faster speeds and increased bandwidth capacity inherent in 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs and 10Gb/s FCoE, such as greater I/O capacity within the server, which maximizes the cost and performance benefits of server virtualization and consolidation.

Emulex demonstrations at VMworld Europe extol the benefits of virtual HBA technology used within virtualized server environments and provide users with a preview of the future of the data center. Demonstrations at VMworld Europe include:

  • Virtual HBA Technology leveraged in next-generation 8Gb/s
Fibre Channel and FCoE environments: This demonstration
shows virtual machine migration using VMotion within a
VMware ESX environment using differing network speeds and
protocols. The demonstration also illustrates the advantages
of using faster speeds and increased bandwidth capacity
inherent in 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs and 10Gb/s FCoE, such
as greater I/O capacity within the server, which maximizes
the cost and performance benefits of server virtualization
    and consolidation.
  • Joint storage solution between Emulex, VMware and Cisco: This
enhanced storage networking solution incorporates Emulex
LightPulse 4Gb/s HBAs, Cisco MDS Fibre Channel switches
and VMware ESX Server, providing customers with the ability
to maintain SAN best practices, while delivering improved
Quality of Service (QoS) and data integrity capabilities.
  • Demonstration in AMD's booth #16: This demonstration
illustrates the expanded virtual machine live migration
functionality provided by AMD's Extended Migration feature
set coupled with Emulex LightPulse 4Gb/s HBAs. Emulex HBAs
in this demonstration highlight the performance and
    integration with VMware ESX Server.

"These demonstrations provide a glimpse into the future of data center networking and how customers can efficiently and effectively run their server virtualization environments while increasing performance and minimizing costs," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Further, today's demonstrations illustrate our extensive capabilities across VMware virtual server environments, including NPIV support to enable virtual machine migration and help enterprises maintain SAN best practices."
