CA's accounting scandal finally touches the boardroom, as Sanjay Kumar steps down as CEO

Tremors from the Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) (NYSE: CA) accounting scandal finaly reached the boardroom today, as Sanjay Kumar stepped down as CEO, resigned from the board of directors, and took the nebulous title of "chief software architect."

No interim CEO was immediately named, but boardmember Lewis Ranieri has taken over the chairman's role.

Earlier this month, the SEC alleged in court that three former CA executives took part in accounting fraud during 1999 and 2000 by back-dating contracts to meet financial targets.
