Absentee Lists; Writing Praise

I completely agree with the sentiments expressed by Bruce Boardman in "'Lack of Resources,' My Eye" (March 2). I would like all product reviews to list those vendors that have refused to participate. I am the sole IT person at a small company and, like many of us, my days are a bit full. If a company isn't confident enough in its product to subject it to independent scrutiny, I would like to know. Why should I waste time comparing a product's features with its competitors, if the company that produced it has as good as told the IT community it won't hold up?

Bruce Boardman replies: We print a list of the vendors we invite, and the reasons the no-shows say they refused to participate. We've also begun listing nonparticipating companies and products in our Vendors at a Glance tables.

Mike DeMaria provided a truly useful overview of Network Automation's AutoMate6 ("Shift Into Automatic"). Technical depth without an overuse of jargon, plus good examples, make your writing most instructive.
