NextHop Proposition: Build Your Own Wi-Fi Hub

Convergence is the theme as NextHop's software-only Wi-Fi solution lets other vendors embed wireless networking into their products.
NextHop is clearly hoping to ride the convergence bandwagon, targeting a world where networking is network -- be it hard-wired or wire-free. The vendor isn't pushing it's software so much to IT departments but OEM vendors who want to quickly add wireless functionality to their existing networking solutions. NextHop's CompleteMobility software enables domains of multiple controllers that share 'state' information, causing multiple controllers to behave as one. In this architecture, if one controller or access point (AP) fails, another will take its place.

NextHop said it has supplied Wi-Fi technology to other vendors including D-Link and 3Com, which use NextHop capabilities to create integrated wired/wireless platforms, particularly for small enterprises and branch offices.

NextHop CompleteMobility-Enterprise software will be available July 30. In a 100-unit AP pack, the price per controller is $4,000.00.
