SolarWinds Snaps Up Network Monitoring Vendor

SolarWinds had historically focused on performance management and ventured into configuration network trouble-shooting. IpMonitor adds fault management capabilities for network and application devices. The addition of ipMonitor provides SMBs a range of management and monitoring capabilities from a single vendor. For existing SolarWinds customers, there will be a lot of synergies with ipMonitor that they may see immediate value from, if they already are not using a tool like What'sUp for fault management.

Network management software maker SolarWinds this week agreed to acquire ipMonitor Corp., incorporating the vendor's Web-based discovery, monitoring, and reporting technology into its product lines.

IpMonitor makes a product of the same name which tracks and reports on the status of critical technology resources, including enterprise applications, services, and devices. The solution is designed to give network managers a quick and accurate view of the availability of network resources, SolarWinds said. The 3-year-old spin-off of DeepMetrix presently has 5,000 customers, according to SolarWinds.

Terms of SolarWinds' acquisition of privately held ipMonitor were not disclosed.
