Netgear Unveils Five-In-One MIMO Gateway

WLAN equipment vendor Netgear said Tuesday that it has released a gateway based on Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) technology that incorporates five separate functions.

The company said that its ADSL Modem Wireless Router serves as an ADSL modem, router, LAN switch and firewall as a wireless access point. The new device is part of its RangeMAX series of MIMO-based networking equipment aimed at homes and small offices.

MIMO uses multiple antennas to increase the speed and range of wireless LANs. The primary goal of the device is to increase range, the company said.

"The range of wireless networks is a constant concern, not only in office environments but in the home as well," David A. James, Netgear's director of product management and marketing for broadband services, said in a statement. "Our customers have asked us to provide them with a RangeMax version of our popular "5 in 1" gateways as our best-selling RangeMax product line delivers range, stability and speeds unlike any other technology available on the market.
