Subscribers to Mobile WiMAX services will skyrocket over the next several years, growing from 1.7 million in 2007 to 21.3 million in 2012, according to a new study by Juniper Research. The growth will follow the initial release of certified WiMAX equipment planned for early 2007.

The report predicts that demand for Mobile WiMAX services will be largely data driven; voice services are expected to make up less than 10% of the total Mobile WiMAX services market in 2012. It adds that North America will represent one of the largest markets for Mobile WiMAX voice services and will make up 32% of the total worldwide market in 2012.

In addition, the report found the following:

* Because Mobile WiMAX can serve both mobile and fixed wireless subscribers, Mobile WiMAX will be adopted across both markets.

* The global market for Mobile WiMAX equipment, including base stations and CPE equipment, will reach $2.53 billion by 2012.* Fixed Internet providers will use Mobile WiMAX as a fixed wireless solution rather than competing with incumbent mobile carriers.

* There is a greater interest amongst OEMs in a dual mode WiMAX-WiFi product compared to a dual mode WiMAX-3G solution.
