Linksys Adds Power-over-Ethernet To Access Points

WLAN equipment vendor Linksys said Tuesday that it is offering two new access points aimed at small businesses that support power-over-Ethernet (POE).

POE provides the power for access points and other equipment without the need to plug them in to standard electrical outlets. It enables use of wireless LAN equipment in hard-to-reach places.

Linksys said it is offered one PoE access point, the WAP54GP, for indoor use and another (the WAP54GPE) for outdoor use. The indoor access point costs $249 and the exterior access point costs $449. Both are available now.
