Iona Closes Deal To Buy SOA Vendor LogicBlaze

Acquisition gives the service-oriented-architecture solutions vendor technology to expand its open-source business

Iona Technologies sealed a deal this week to buy the privately held open-source SOA (service-oriented architecture) solution vendor LogicBlaze.

The Dublin-based vendor said that in purchasing LogicBlaze it will gain access to both technology and expertise Iona needs to bring new open-source products to market quickly.Iona also will acquire LogicBlaze's customers, which span a number of industries including organizations in financial services, government and telecommunications.

LogicBlaze, which is headquartered in Marina del Rey, Calif., makes open-source enterprise messaging and ESB (enterprise service bus) products as well as an open-source runtime platform for SOA.

Iona said LogicBlaze's founders Hiram Chirino, Rob Davies and James Strachan will become part of its open-source organization. The vendors did not make the terms of the all-cash deal public.
