SMC Networks is targeting the nascent enterprise 802.11g wireless market with an access point that is deep in security and manageability features. Called the SMC2552W-G, the device is the newest member of SMC's EliteConnect family of enterprise wireless-networking products.
The access point has enterprise-level authentication and encryption security features, including Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and up to 152-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption. The firm said the 802.11b- and g-compliant device can connect to Enterprise nets at 2.4GHz and 11Mbps radio transmission.
"Web-based network management tools make configuration and remote management of the network simple," the firm said in a statement. "IT professionals can also use Command Line Interface (CLI) to quickly and easily manage the device and wireless network." SMC indicated it is targeting the SMC2552W-G at large enterprises that employ mobile workforces.
The company said that its SMC Networks EliteView Management Software and SNMP support facilitate integration of the wireless LAN with the wired infrastructure.
