REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- According to a recently published report by DellOro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, overall Fibre Channel switch sales rose 11 percent during the second quarter of 2007 both sequentially and over the same period one year ago. In contrast, sales of HBAs dipped slightly for the second consecutive quarter and remained about the same level as the same period one year ago.

“Switches are sold along with new storage arrays while HBAs are sold along with servers. User appetite for storage capacity continues at a robust clip, while the server market has been turned upside-down and shipments suppressed by server virtualization software (VMware),” said Tam Dell’Oro, President and Founder of Dell’Oro Group. “We think users carefully plan their storage networks and therefore the ratio between switches and HBAs will have to rationalize,” added Dell’Oro.
