The Flamenco acquisition gives Digital Evolution an infusion of workflow-related code. To be a market consolidation survivor, Digital Evolution must make the right decisions about which technologies it will keep and which it will throw away. Flamenco had so many technical problems with the latest version of its software that it completely redesigned its products.

Digital Evolution acquired Flamenco more for its workflow capabilities than its management or security options, both of which Digital Evolution already does well. Workflow and business process management support are increasingly important for a successful SOA (service-oriented architechture) implementation, so the move puts Digital Evolution a leap ahead of competitors that have yet to fully integrate workflow into their products.
