Sprint Canada Launches VoIP Broadband Phone Service
Service to be compatible with high-speed, residential Internet services, such as DSL and cable
July 22, 2004
Sprint Canada launched a broadband phone service for residential and small business customers. The carrier, a subsidiary of Call-Net Enterprises Inc., said the $19.95 (Canadian) per month VoIP service will enable local and long-distance calling over IP networks and Sprint Canada's national local-service network.
Officials say the new Sprint phone service is compatible with all high-speed, residential Internet services, such as DSL and cable. The service uses a regular phone handset and allows customers to keep their existing phone numbers.
To get customers started, Sprint provides a VoIP gateway and a telephone number that can travel with the customer to wherever high speed Internet access services are available. It also will offer an integrated four-port 100 megabits per second (mbps) Ethernet router and firewall.
